Georgia O'Keeffe
Georgia O'Keeffe
Georgia Totto O'Keeffe was born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on November 15th, 1887. She started her carrer early by studying at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1905 before moving to New York City to study at the Art Students League in 1907-1908. In 1916, Alfred Stieglitz, who was interested in modernism and modern artists, showed Georgia's artwork to the public for the first time, and the two formed a professional partnership. Six years after that, they got married. After Alfred died in 1946, Georgia moved to New Mexico and was inspired by the landscapes there. She created many great paintings, such as Black Cross, New Mexico, and Cow's Skull with Calico Roses after she moved there. Georgia died on March 6th, 1986 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her artwork can be seen in museums all around the world, as well as in the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Georgia O'Keeffe was one of the greatest American artists of the twentieth century. I chose this artist because I think her art is very pretty and light.

Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Kandinsky
Wassily Kandinsky was born on Decemeber 4th, 1866 in Moscow. His parents names were Lidia Ticheeva and Vasily Silvestrovich Kandinsky. When Wassily was 5 years old his parents got divorced, so he moved to Odessa to live with his aunt. While he was there, he learned to play piano and cello, and also study drawing with a coach. He had an interest in art, even when he was young. Wassily followed his families wishes to go into law by entering the University of Moscow in 1886. He also married his cousin Anna Chimyakina in 1892 and took up a position on the Moscow Faculty of Law. In 1896, Wassily chose to leave his law career and move to Munich to study art full time. While in Munich, he was accepted into a private painting school. He then moved on to the Munich Academy of Arts. Much of Wassily's study was self directed though. He started with conventional themes and art forms, but he was forming theories devoted from spiritual study and informed by a relationship between music and color. He formed a good friendship with Paul Klee. He also taught many art classes and published his ideas on theories of art. Wassily Kandinsky was the father of abstract art. I chose this artist because his art was very unique.
